So for the last 5 years I have been slowly purchasing the Forgeworld terrain tiles I wished I’d been in a position to buy when they were available from Games Workshop. The set of four Realm of Battle Cityscape tiles were released for Games Day 2012 and were the design work of Forge World scenery designer Blake Spence and originally retailed for £75 each. There is some good information about these published by iFelix and an amazing step by step painted guide over at The Painting Bunker for all the tiles and then scenery.

Realm of Battle Manufactorum Sector. This along with the Genatorium Nexus were released for Games Day in 2014 and were the work of Blake Spence. My Manufactoru arrived beautifully painted and I don’t intend to change it. It may need some work to blend it with the others but this is the most done tile.

Primus Sector Tile. I love the dirty stone effect so this one is also staying largely as is, it just needs the road sections blending to work with the other tiles.

The Shattered Plaza Tile. As it was produced, not even sure it’s had a scrub to get the release agent off it yet, so I’ll need to make sure to remember to do that before it get’s primed. Unfortunately, the plaza top is not flat so I am going to have to see if I can remedy that…

Generatorum Sector Tile. One of two tiles imported from Italy, nicely painted with some details but will need some blending work to tie it into the others.

Concourse Sector Tile. Second of two tiles imported from Italy, well painted with the wrecked Rapier laser battery. The tarmac road details will need some blending work to tie it into the others.

Realm of Battle Mars Pattern Imperialis Landing Pad that came out in later 2016 when you could pick one up for £80. These are now selling for more than £400 each – if you can get one. Mine came in the original box with all the original packaging and is factory fresh,
My aim was always to get 6 cityscape boards to make a playable 6×4 table. Box checked, I now have a playable setup with the boards I already own. In fact it turns out I have the exact combination of tiles that the Warhammer40KPainter from Reddit who is based out of Chicago painted up for gaming in their local club – here is a photo of their finished board, which gives me some inspiration for my own setup:

Luckily I know that I can make a second table of scenery based around the ‘bunker’ tile and some DIY work… The Imperial Strongpoint expansion is designed for use with the Citadel Realm of Battle gameboard system and fits in with the contours of the blown plastic 6 tile set. This 2′ by 2′ tile is a nice fortified stronghold that uses a lot of the same features as the trench warfare set and the individual Forgeworld terrain pieces.

Just to show how the value of these tiles has climbed, when it was released initially as an exclusive for the Forge World Open Day on 3rd April 2011, prior to its main release date later that year, this Realm of Battle board designed by Stuart Williamson cost £60.
My plan is to make another 2×2 board with some Trench elements and that tapers to allow it and the Imperial Strongpoint to be used on a neoprene mat. I’ll make a tapered edge for the strongpoint tile….
Wish list includes the following, but I am in no rush, prices on these have been getting crazy and
- Realm of Battle Genatorum Nexus
- Realm of Battle Space Marine Castellum Stronghold
- Imperial Primus Redoubt
