Way back when I planned this model loyalist Smash Captains were a thing. The equivalent traitor marine would have been an aspiring champion. He was put together and has been in the painting backlog for ages.
Looking at the option in the Chaos Space Marine codex in 10th Edition 40k, the aspiring champion is gone so this is really now a Chaos Lord. Stuff happens.
So this battle brother lost both legs at some point and has bionics. These made the model very tall, so the base is actually hollowed out and he is sunken into the ground with his extra mass. The bionic legs came from Anvil Industries.

Combination of old traitor marine Plasma Pistol and old school Night Lords shoulder pads.
Relatively new model Chaos Space Marine head with painted skull mask and newish back pack design.
Obilgatory flayed skin and bone fragments on the shoulder pad from the Liber Daemonica.
